Product Description

Glide is the second part of an ecopoetics project that began with the landmark collection Yuiquimbiang. Louise Crisp’s new collection extends her research into the environments of south-eastern Australia; stolen land afflicted by the ongoing colonial practices of logging, mining and land clearing. Glide is a series of radical long-form poems which attend to specific East Gippsland ecosystems: endangered gliders of the foothill forests, rare grasslands of the Gippsland Plains, a copper mine on the montane headwaters of the Tambo River, and the historic Brolga country of the Gippsland Lakes’ fringing freshwater wetlands in counterpoint to the Brolga swamps and lagoons of south-western Victoria. Crisp creates an intimate and haunting poetics of inhabitation and dialogue with the more-than-human world.

REVIEWS

“If you have ever walked under the canopy of an old-growth forest, then Louise Crisp’s Glide will take you there once again. Her words will immerse you in the intricacies and the threats of these unique habitats…Glide offers a unity of place and a timely urgency; it records what has been lost and appeals to our better nature, asking us to rethink our relationship to ancient landscapes and their many more-than-human inhabitants.” VIVIENNE GLANCE, Westerly Magazine

“In this multi-layered collection, poet and activist Louise Crisp details threatened species in the East Gippsland region of Victoria, and in doing so addresses the global environmental crisis…Glide challenges settler land ownership, butting it up against more-than-human perspectives so that that we cannot “glide” on in blissful ignorance, complicit in further destruction.” NICOLE RAIN SELLERS, Rochford Street Review
